| My mom just signed a contract for our house, FINALLY.
I figured that now would be a good time to start xanga-ing it up again seeing as a fresh start is coming my way.
I am ecstatic and terrified at the same time. I've had some of the best times of my life in this house and I know through moving I will lose a part of my past that I don't know if I am ready to let go of yet.
It's been a long journey to finally establish ourselves as the Taylor *women*, rather than *family* and I think we are going to be all right...

| how is siu even in business. this is the worst run institution i have ever set foot in in my entire life and i would feel no remorse if every building in the place burned to the ground so it would take years upon years for it to come back into exsistence and i would hope it never would.
if i had any more than 4 days left here i would seriously consider suicide. |

| today is my last day of classes which is amazing, but after today i have absolutely nothing to do until my final on wednesday and my final on thursday. sooo that kind of sucks, cause i'm stuck here for a week for no reason.
last night i went to a da vinci code discussion/debate thing. there was an older man who was a minister at a baptist church and then the head guy of the newman center here who is a young catholic man. they pretty much had the same opinions about everything, but it was really weird. they kept saying that dan brown's book is proven to be a lie because of historal documents. well, i was uncertain of what they meant by "historical documents" so i asked "by historical documents, do you just mean the bible?" and the older guy talked for about 10 minutes about how the bible is factual because there are no other publications from that time that disprove or go against what the bible says. and he said that obviously, if jesus' miracles didn't happen than someone would've written about it. the younger guy said that the bible is true because the people that wrote it had to die in order to write it.
now, i am just curious as to why if the bible is this book of completely true FACTS about history. than, why aren't all students forced to learn it in history classes in school? well, my opinion is that because there is absolutely no way to be 100% positive that the bible is factual. the first story of the bible wasn't written until 70 YEARS after jesus' death. so, either it was written by people who were babies at the time of jesus, that wouldn't remember anything....or by word of mouth. the men kept saying that the bible was based off of EYEWITNESS accounts and that they made copies and copies of their stories and they all matched up. (but they also said there were several stories written and whoever composed the bible chose which stories to keep and which to leave out). anyway...
in psychology we just learned about how eyewitness accounts are usually the most inaccurate accounts of an event. and we also learned about how the more a story is told, the more things become fabricated and it turns into something completely different from the actual event.
anyway, i'm not saying that i think the da vinci code is historically accurate by any means
but.
the guys kept saying our culture takes things at face value and that it's easy to believe dan brown's book, but it's really hard to find a relationship with god. they said we need to learn how to be critical thinkers.
so i am just looking at this and questioning stuff i don't know a lot about.
it's hard to talk to someone about this who believes the bible is fact, because they aren't open to considering anything else...but people who have devoted their lives to the study of the bible and religion know a lot about the questions i have...so it's kind of a double edged sword.
the older minister said that if dan brown was in the room he would want dan brown to apologize to the world for slanderizing the catholic church. (he said a lot more but that was basically the main point).
first of all...slander is SPOKEN word of false statements that harm a person's reputation. i also just learned about this in one of my classes. anyway....to my knowledge dan brown never spoke out against the catholic church? i could be mistaken though...
second of all...the book is fiction.
all in all i was glad i went to the discussion...but i also felt extremely awkward after i asked my question because everyone else's questions were like "you know in the passage of issaih chapter 2 verse 1u489 he states..." and then they'd ask stuff about how dan brown's book is bad for whatever reason, but it was interesting cause the audience (that wasn't that large probably 30-something people?!) was asked by a show of hands how many were christian...catholic... and pretty much everyone raised their hand for one of the other. but then when they asked by a show of hands who had read the book...probably 8 people raised their hands.
i just don't get how they KNOW dan brown's book is bad if they've never read it?
anyway, i have been ranting about this for a while now...and probably no one will read this or care...but it was just on my mind.
in more entertaining news, my favorite guy on top chef got chosen to go to the top 3!!! so i was really excited that i saw that after the debate!
haha okay cool well now i have to finish my last regular school day of SIU ever!
